Pretoria is often referred to as the "The Jacaranda City", due to the high number of Jacaranda trees that are planted in Pretoria and its surrounds. 1 - The Blue Train

2 - Kolonnade Ice Rink

3 - Rietvlei Nature Reserve

If you are a fan of nature, the outdoors, birds and animals the Rietvlei Nature Reserve makes a great place for a day out in Pretoria. The 38kmē can be found between the city of Pretoria and OR Tambo (Johannesburg) International Airport and you may catch a glimpse of zebra, cheetah, rhino, various buck and over 300 bird species if you decide to take a tour or hike of the area.

4 - Stamp Museum

Maybe not one for the everyone, but if you or one of your kids loves stamps then The Stamp Museum makes for an interesting way to spend an hour or two. Admission is free and the museum is home to over 500,000 stamps, both of local (South African) origin, as well as international stamps. If you love stamps and want to take a look at a few that you'll probably never get another chance to see, be sure to take a trip to the Stamp Museum. You will find The Stamp Museum in Palace Street, Pretoria and it is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

5 - Cullinan Diamond Mine

The Cullinan Diamond Mine is the place where the world's largest diamond was found, the Cullinan Diamond, which was 3106 carats before it was cut. You can do both an above ground, or underground tour of the mine and view rough diamonds, cutting and polishing and see an operating mine. A tour of the Cullinan Diamond Mine makes for an unusual day out and the site of the huge hole is definitely worth taking a picture of!

6 - Pretoria Zoo

Rated as one of the top zoos in the world, the Pretoria Zoo (officially named the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa) it a top choice for anyone with kids looking for a fund day out, with a bit of education thrown in. The zoo features over 6km of walkways, features an aquarium and reptile park, as well as over 200 bird species. The Pretoria Zoo also plays an important in conversation in the country and is a must to put on the agenda for any family day out in Pretoria.
